ABSTRACT

Background: This study aimed to compare the therapeutic efficacy and the side effects of different endostar administration methods in patients with advanced malignancy who underwent second-line chemotherapy. Methods: 98 patients with advanced malignancies were divided into 2 groups based on the delivery methods of endostar, including drip intravenous administration of endostar (DE) group and continuous intravenous administration of endostar (CE) group. Response rate (RR), disease control rate (DCR), and quality of life (QOL) of the patients were examined to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy, and toxicity reactions were analyzed to evaluate the adverse effects. Results: Compared with the DE group, the therapeutic efficacy of CE has been slightly improved, but the difference did not reach statistical significance (P > 0.05). Additionally, no different incidence rate was observed in toxic reactions, including leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and hepatic function damage, between the DE and CE groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, no significant difference was observed between the traditional intravenous drip of endostar group and the intravenous drip followed by continuous pumping of endostar group in the patients with advanced malignancies.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the relationship between childhood abuse and recent negative life events with suicidal ideation and attempt, and to provide reference for prevention and control of suicidal behaviors in middle school students.@*Methods@#Stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 7 986 middle school students from Shenzhen, Nanchang and Shenyang as participants. Questionnaire survey was conducted to collect information on demographic indicators, childhood abuse, negative life events, suicidal ideation and suicide attempt, etc. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between childhood abuse experience and negative life events with suicidal ideation and suicide attempt.@*Results@#The prevalence of suicidal ideation and suicide attempt was 22.9% and 4.7%. After adjusted for confounding variables, with the increase of childhood abuse and negative life events, suicidal ideation and attempt in middle school students showed an increasing trend(P<0.05). Compared those with low level of childhood abuse and negative life events, students with high childhood abuse and high negative life events had a higher suicidal ideation and suicide attempt risk, the multiple adjusted odds ratio was 10.43 and 19.75(P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#Childhood abuse and negative life events are important risk factors affecting suicidal ideation and attempt in middle school students. Strategies to reduce childhood abuse and negative life events should be an integral component of targeted mental health interventions.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the associations of aggressive behavior with self-esteem with suicide risk in college students.@*Methods@#A total of 4 154 college students in Suzhou, Hefei and Ma’anshan were enrolled in our study by multistage cluster sampling method during October to December 2017. Demographic characteristics, suicide risk, aggression and self-esteem of participants were evaluated by Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R), Buss & Perry Aggression Questionnaire-Chinese Version (AQ-CV) and Rosenberg Self-esteem Questionnaire separately. Aggression and self-esteem were divided into three levels, high (> P 75 ), medium ( P 25 - P 75 ) and low (< P 25 ) level, according to the percentile of the questionnaire score. Multivariate logistic regression model was used to examine the associations of aggression and self-esteem with suicide risk, and to explore gender difference.@*Results@#The gender differences were found in suicide risk, aggressive behavior and self-esteem( χ 2=80.21, 26.47, 26.51 , P <0.01). More girls reported suicide ideation, suicide plan and suicide attempt compared to girls( χ 2=33.03, 25.11, 15.71 , P <0.01). Compared with boys, the detection rate of suicide ideation, suicide plan and suicide attempt of girls were higher( P <0.01). The high aggressive behavior and low self-esteem was correlated with increased risk of suicide, and the interaction effects of aggressive behavior and self-esteem on suicide risk was found. The students with high aggressive behavior and low self-esteem had a higher suicide risk, the multiple adjusted odds ratio was 19.39 (95% CI =11.10-33.87). Gender difference was not found in the associations of aggressive behavior and self-esteem with suicide risk ( P >0.05).@*Conclusion@#Aggressive behavior and self-esteem are correlated with suicide risk in college students.

ABSTRACT

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: To investigate clinical curative effects of lumbar oblique-pulling manipulation in combination with sling-exercise-therapy training on chronic nonspecific lower back pain. METHODS: A total of 60 patients with chronic nonspecific lower back pain in the Outpatient Department were included in this study. These patients were randomly divided into two groups: the observation group and the control group. The control group adopted a single sling-exercise-therapy training three times a week, while the observation group adopted lumbar oblique-pulling manipulation in combination with manipulation treatment once a week. The course of treatment lasted for four weeks. RESULTS: (1) Before and after treatment, the ODI score was compared within the group. A remarkable statistical significance was observed from the third day (P<0.05). At the third month of follow-up, the difference in ODI scores between these two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). (2) Before and after treatment, it was observed that differences in VAS scores from the third day were statistically significant (P<0.05). (3) The difference in muscle strength between these two groups had remarkable statistical significance in the third month of follow-up (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The effective rehabilitation function of lumbar oblique-pulling manipulation in combination with sling-exercise-therapy training in patients with CNLBP is superior to that of sling-exercise-therapy training alone.

ABSTRACT

The effect of astaxanthin on N(Ω)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) induced preeclampsia disease rats was investigated. Thirty pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups (n = 10): blank group, L-NAME group and astaxanthin group. From day 5 to 20, astaxanthin group rats were treated with astaxanthin (25 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1) x bw(-1)) from pregnancy (day 5). To establish the preeclamptic rat model, L-NAME group and astaxanthin group rats were injected with L-NAME (125 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1) x bw(-1)) from days 10-20 of pregnancy. The blood pressure and urine protein were recorded. Serum of each group was collected and malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activities were analyzed. Pathological changes were observed with HE stain. The expression of NF-κB (nuclear factor kappa B), ROCK II (Rho-associated protein kinase II), HO-1 (heme oxygenase-1) and Caspase 3 were analyzed with immunohistochemistry. L-NAME induced typical preeclampsia symptoms, such as the increased blood pressure, urinary protein, the content of MDA, etc. Astaxanthin significantly reduced the blood pressure (P < 0.01), the content of MDA (P < 0.05), and increased the activity of SOD (P < 0.05) of preeclampsia rats. The urinary protein, NO, and NOS were also decreased. HE stain revealed that after treated with astaxanthin, the thickness of basilal membrane was improved and the content of trophoblast cells and spiral arteries was reduced. Immunohistochemistry results revealed that the expressions of NF-κB, ROCK II and Caspase 3 in placenta tissue were effectively decreased, and HO-1 was increased. Results indicated that astaxanthin can improve the preeclampsia symptoms by effectively reducing the oxidative stress and inflammatory damages of preeclampsia. It revealed that astaxanthin may be benefit for prevention and treatment of preeclampsia disease.

ABSTRACT

To increase the biotransfomation efficiency from the orotic acid to the uridine 5'-monophosphate(UMP),URA5 gene encoding orotate phosphoribosytransferase was amplified from Saccharomyces cerevisiae BY4742 by PCR,then it was inserted into the expression vector pYX212(contained orotidine monophosphate decarboxylase gene URA3)and the pYX212-URA5 was transformed into Saccharomyces cerevisiae BJX12 by electroporation. The recombinant strain was elementarily used to convert orotic acid to UMP.The results showed that pYX212-URA5/BJX12 could accumulate 7mmol/L UMP from 32mmol/L orotic acid in 26h,significantly higher than both control groups pYX212/BJX12(2.7mmol/L) and BJX12(2.4 mmol/L).
